About this walk
Hainault Forest Country Park covers 900 acres in the north-east corner of Greater London, the surviving fragment of the ancient forest of Hainault which once extended across much of Essex. This 7.5km Cabin Hill and Fox Burrows Loop is a longer and less-visited circuit than the Lambourne End route from Batch 1, starting from the main visitor centre and taking in the ancient woodland of Cabin Hill, the meadow and scrub of Fox Burrows and the parkland around the main lake. The woodland sections are dense and genuinely old, with some ancient hornbeam pollards surviving from the pre-enclosure forest. Dogs are off lead throughout the forest sections. The lake has a waterside cafe that is dog-friendly outside.
