About this walk
The East Heath section of Hampstead Heath is the most open and least wooded part of the 800-acre site. The 5.5km East Heath Ponds and Viaduct Walk starts from the Gospel Oak entrance, crosses the East Heath open grassland, passes the mixed bathing pond and the model boating pond, reaches the Victorian Viaduct Bridge spanning the valley between the East and North heaths, circuits the North End section and returns via the Heath House woodland edge. Dogs are off lead throughout the heath. The open East Heath section provides the widest free-running space on the whole heath. The Viaduct Bridge crosses a shallow valley and the stream below is accessible to dogs at the valley floor.
