About this walk
Mitcham Common is a 460-acre ancient common in the London Borough of Merton, one of the largest areas of common land in inner London and a Site of Special Scientific Interest for its acid grassland and heathland. The 6km Watermeads Circular links the common with the River Wandle wetland at Watermeads Nature Reserve to the south. The dog walking routes use the outer common area away from the golf course in the centre. Dogs are off lead throughout the common and the riverside sections. The River Wandle at Watermeads is one of the cleanest urban rivers in England and dogs can wade throughout.
