About this walk
The Parkland Walk follows the trackbed of the former Alexandra Palace to Finsbury Park branch of the Great Northern Railway, which closed in 1954. The Haringey section from Alexandra Palace to Finsbury Park is 6km of dense urban woodland on an elevated embankment that feels remarkably wild given it passes through the middle of north London's densest residential neighbourhoods. Dogs are off lead throughout. The woodland is predominantly secondary growth on the former railway ballast and is rich in birdlife. The Parkland Walk is a Local Nature Reserve and a Site of Metropolitan Importance for Nature Conservation. Finsbury Park station is at the southern end.
