About this walk
Brocton Coppice is an ancient sessile oak woodland on the eastern edge of Cannock Chase, a stronghold for wood warbler, pied flycatcher and redstart. The 7km walk from Marquis Drive car park circuits the coppice through its oak, rowan and birch woodland, crosses the heathland section on the western edge and loops back via the Brocton village field paths and the Sherbrook stream crossing. The ancient oak woodland has some pollard trees of exceptional age. Dogs are off lead in the woodland and on the heathland sections. The Sherbrook crossing has safe stepping stones and a shallow ford.
