About this walk
Moseley Bog is a 7.5-hectare Local Nature Reserve in Moseley, Birmingham, an ancient alder carr and marshy woodland famous as one of the childhood play areas of J.R.R. Tolkien. The 3.5km walk combines the bog woodland with the adjacent Joy's Wood and the Sarehole Mill stream corridor. The bog has wooden boardwalks through the wettest sections and the surrounding woodland retains a genuinely wild character. Dogs are welcome in the nature reserve and off lead in the more open sections. Dogs should be on lead on the narrower boardwalk sections. The Sarehole Mill stream is accessible from the Joy's Wood section.
